Tim Tompkins
I’m Tim Tompkins, co-host of Gray Area and a former co-host of The American Journal. I’ve spent hundreds of hours hosting live shows and interviewing guests, including hosting The American Journal alongside Rex Jones every weekday during its final two months.
Outside the studio, I’m a mechanical engineer working in aerospace and military weapons systems. That background shapes how I cover current events. I look at the numbers, ask how and why things happen, and make the explanation easy to follow.
Deep Dives
My specialty is what I call deep dives. I go beyond the headlines, digging into the history, numbers, and data behind current events. From political corruption and rising prices to secret wars, I make complicated stories easy to understand and explain why they matter to everyday Americans.
National Debt
Breaking down America’s national debt, how we got here, and why it matters to everyday Americans.
Data Centers & Drinking Water
A deep dive into data centers and drinking water contamination in American communities.

Hosting The American Journal
Rex and I represent the next generation and bring a different perspective to the network. Our style is conversational, with humor and energy that make the show enjoyable to watch.
Rex brings the shotgun approach, covering the headlines in a news blitz. I blend in my sniper approach, going beyond the headline to explain what people need to know, why it matters, and what they may not have heard.
